She has extensive experience working on a variety of emission reduction initiatives and programs around the world and an in-depth understanding of the international standards and procedures that regulate them. She has also examined the environmental and social sustainability of renewable energy and climate programs and their gender implications.

Hanna-Mari previously worked at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, advising government officials on international climate policy, emphasizing adaptation, climate resilience, and carbon pricing. She was a member of Finland’s Climate Change Adaptation Monitoring Group and Co-Chair of the EU Expert Group on Adaptation.

She coordinated the EU’s adaptation negotiations and the Warsaw International Mechanism on Loss and Damage at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid in December 2019. She participates in the piloting and implementation of international climate cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, drawing on her Kyoto experience. She works at Perspectives as a Senior Consultant on promoting proactive and ambitious climate action on a global and Nordic scale, including through international carbon markets and zero-emission technologies. She is currently a Project Manager and Senior Expert in a project on designing an Article 6 piloting concept, for NEFCO and a Senior Researcher for the research project on negative emission technologies: readiness assessment, policy instrument design, options for governance and dialogue (NET-RAPIDO), for Swedish Energy Agency (at Perspectives Climate Research)
