# Authorising Article 6.4 Carbon Credits

The Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM), established under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, is an emerging supply source of authorised Article 6 credits. This new guidance:
clarifies the critical distinction between Article 6.4 activity approval and credit authorisation
explains the different types of Article 6.4 credits and authorisation statements, and
provides practical insights on how countries can align authorisation decisions with their Nationally Determined Contributions while avoiding overselling.
