# Enhancing Green Bond Transparency through CDM

Green bonds are a fast-growing instrument for channelling capital into the low-carbon transition, but the market faces growing concerns about greenwashing and a lack of accepted, comparable standards for reporting climate impact. This two-pager argues that climate benefit reporting for green bonds should be harmonised with established UNFCCC-approved Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodologies. The CDM has produced over 200 approved methodologies, tested in close to 10,000 projects across more than 100 developing countries, that are ready to use and cover most green bond project types. Applying simplified, standardised CDM methodologies would make ex-post impact assessment of green bond-financed projects faster, more cost-effective and more robust, giving investors credible proof of achieved mitigation results.
