Organic waste poses a serious environmental challenge in urban areas, often ending up in unsanitary landfills due to the lack of composting programs or sustainable waste management practices. In Indonesia, traditional markets are a major source of organic waste. Harnessing the transformational potential of Article 6, Perspectives Climate Research, in partnership with ICLEI Indonesia, has developed an Article 6 activity concept to process organic waste from traditional markets in a biogas facility, reducing methane emissions and producing green electricity. This concept is scalable across the country and offers a powerful opportunity to transform waste management, starting with traditional markets and expanding to hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and schools.
