My vision is to support the private sector and governments in applying smart climate policies and carbon pricing instruments.
Sonja Butzengeiger has been working on international climate policies since 1999. She started her career as a researcher at the Hamburg Institute of International Economics from 2000 to 2005 and co-founded Perspectives in 2003. From 2006 to 2007, she worked for the German Environment Ministry’s (BMU) Department of Energy and Climate, focusing on UNFCCC-negotiation, greenhouse gas reporting, the national adaptation plan mechanism, and domestic energy policy including the EU ETS.
Sonja is leading Perspectives’ work related to private-sector climate action and innovative energy technologies such as renewable PtX/hydrogen.
Over the years, Sonja has managed numerous projects for public- and private-sector clients, including topics related to NDCs, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, carbon markets, project finance, and adaptation. Furthermore, she achieved registration of several CDM projects and conceptualised a CDM methodology for a project involving Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Sonja is leading Perspectives’ work in the areas of private-sector climate action and innovative energy technologies such as renewable PtX/hydrogen. Sonja also initiated the Hydrogen for NetZero Initiative.
Sustainable finance is crucial for transforming the economy into one that positively influences society and the environment. We support the companies to invest and operate responsibly – and understand the impact of their choices – allowing them to take pivotal roles in channeling resources towards a sustainable future.
