Axel Michaelowa featured in Carbon Pulse Briefing on Thailand’s new carbon tax

As of February 12, Axel Michaelowa was quoted in a Carbon Pulse briefing, which highlights concerns over Thailand’s newly approved carbon tax on fossil fuels.

The tax, starting at 200 baht (around $5.88) per metric ton of CO₂ emissions, will be integrated into the country’s existing excise tax system. While the move has been welcomed, critics argue that it lacks a clear strategy to support Thailand’s carbon neutrality goals. Axel, who was asked to comment on this in quality of seasoned carbon markets expert, called the tax a “window dressing,” questioning whether it will have any real impact on reducing emissions without a broader plan.
