Join us for a webinar hosted by Justiça Ambiental (Friends of the Earth Mozambique) and Perspectives Climate Research. The event will explore how export finance and investor protection mechanisms, particularly the risk of investor-state arbitration, contribute to locking Mozambique into high-carbon development pathways by supporting the country’s fossil fuel mega projects.

In this webinar, legal researcher Lea di Salvatore and Perspectives’ Luisa Weber will present their latest research on the interconnections of export finance and investment protection and the effects on African energy projects. Economist Fadhel Kaboub will provide insights into how these mechanisms fit into the broader macroeconomic drivers shaping economic development in Africa. João Feijó, researcher from Mozambique, will share his reflections on the impact of these hidden financial and legal support mechanisms on Mozambique’s development and the fossil fuel industry. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to ask their questions to the speakers. Translation to Portuguese will be provided.

This webinar is part of a research project funded by the Africa Europe Foundation.
