Tobias Heimann holds a Doctorate in Quantitative Economics from the University of Kiel and a Master in Developing Economics from the University of Göttingen. From 2016 to 2023 he worked at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel), where he did his Doctorate degree and coordinated a BMBF-funded interdisciplinary joint research project analyzing global effects of bioeconomy and climate policies on agricultural markets, land use, land-use change, GHG emissions and biodiversity. In addition, he contributed to consulting projects.
As an environmental economist with a background in development economics, Tobias focuses on policy challenges considering carbon dioxide removal (CDR), and draws upon interdisciplinary methods to provide advice on dealing with ecological and socio-economic trade-offs considering natural resource-related CDR.
Tobias has a strong background in economic modelling, particularly computable general equilibrium (CGE) models and the linkage of economic and ecological models. Besides working on climate policy and the energy transition, his special interest lies in the bidirectional assessment of interactions between economic activities and the biosphere. Further, he published in high-level journals and conducted research on the application of bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), agricultural markets, the bioeconomy, and sustainable development.
