Main project features:

The objective of the project was to improve the resilience to climate change of the clients portfolio of the Bolivian Financial Institution for Development (IDF)Sartawi through the development of a new micro insurance product. As the main part of the portfolio consisted of smallholder farmers, the green product has been developed for the agricultural sector.The project also aimed at (i) assessing the vulnerability of the clients portfolio, (ii) strengthening the existing tools for measuring and monitoring of the environmental performance of Sartawi’s clients portfolio and (iii) improving the management of the climatic risks associated to the clients portfolio.

Project Overview

Perspectives provided a vulnerability analysis with respect to the possible climate change impacts on Sartawi’s clients portfolio and elaborated a climate-risk monitoring and evaluation approach, as well as an enhanced climate risk management tool.The tasks carried out by Perspectives were:• Elaboration of recommendations for the improvement of the GIRAS tool used by the client for agro-climatic risks management• Vulnerability assessment of Sartawi’s clients portfolio (in cooperation with Acclimatise UK) based on a sectorial categorization of the clients as well as on their geographical localization.• Formulation of vulnerability reduction measures for the selected clusters of clients.• Identification and evaluation of existing internal risk management procedure.• Formulation of recommendations for improved monitoring and evaluation approaches for climate-induced impacts related to financial risks of Sartawi’s clients portfolio.• Realization of a 3-day workshop in La Paz City to validate the results and further strengthen the recommendations.
