Maria Eitel holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Freiburg and a Gender Expertise Certificate from the University of Basel. She has also completed several ISO certified trainings in Corporate Digital Responsibility, Sustainability and Project Management. During her studies, she focused on the International Political Economy of climate change and Political Theory. Following this, she worked at the University of Freiburg as a lecturer in the Department of Political Philosophy and Theory and as a Programme Coordinator at the Institute of Economics where she was responsible for the Master’s programmes in Economics and Business Administration. Her interests are primarily focused on ecological, social and economic interdependencies. Programme coordination of international climate financing projects is another area that sparks her interest, especially when it comes to sustainable development and improving the living conditions of the most marginalised groups in the global South.

Maria is interested in the intersection of climate policy research and gendered perspectives, in particular NDC strategies and Art. 6 implementation. Her work aims to advance climate policy gender initiatives and international climate finance projects.

Currently, her focus is on international grant projects in West and East Africa, serving to connect climate finance, carbon markets and private sector mobilisation to push forward the expansion of renewable energies and promote capacity building in the regions. In addition, she is supporting the UNFCCC negotiations team in the preparation of Supervisory Body’s and COP meetings. She also supports the management team’s day-to-day administrative matters, drawing on her background in Sustainability, Corporate Digital Responsibility and Project Management.
