Main project features:

The main goal of the project was to support the evaluation of the potential for GHGs mitigation and carbon credits generation from Arctic Green Energy (AGE)’s geothermal projects through carbon markets and schemes. Further, the project aimed to develop a strategy to maximize revenues related to the sales of the credits generated through geothermal projects.

Project Overview

Perspectives main task was to support AGE to understand the carbon credit generation and trading potential. The specific tasks Perspectives carried out were:
An analysis of current carbon markets/schemes at national level (e.g. China) and international (Article 6) levels to evaluate how carbon credits can be generated and issued from AGE’s project activities.

A feasibility assessment to define eligibility of the proposed activity and the quantification of the potential volume of carbon credits that could be generated by an existing AGE’s geothermal project (use case).

Develop a company strategy for monetizing carbon credits including identification of potential buyers and market trends. In achieving the objectives above, Perspectives answered the questions: What is the landscape of current carbon market regulation and available carbon standards/schemes on in China, Europe, Philippines and UAE? What are the specific requirements for geothermal projects?
Can carbon credits be generated by AGE’s existing geothermal projects? If yes, how? What are the main challenges for carbon credits generation and issuance from AGE project activities?
If carbon credits are generated and used, what can be claimed? By which actor of the value chain? How to address the risk of potential double claiming with companies or governments?
How can AGE maximize revenues from credit’s sales? Who are the potential buyers? What are the key selling points (narrative) of the activity?
