Main project features:
Development of a concept how mitigation co-benefits resulting from implementation of Parties’ adaptation actions and/or economic diversification plans as part of their NDCs can contribute to mitigation outcomes. This includes an overview of options and provision of guidance for identifying, as well as methodologies and approaches for assessing, quantifying and reporting these mitigation co-benefits.
Project Overview
Preparation of a concept paper discussing options how to evaluate adaptation action and how to set national priorities for selecting adapatation measures given limited financial budgets. The report includes on overview of potential co-benefits of adaptation measures in various sectors, as well as case studies related to a) renewable energy water desalination plants, b) coastal protection through mangroves , and c) replacement of oil export economy by investment in heavy industry.The study also deals with questions of accounting, MRV and UN-reporting of adaptation co-benefits.Results were presented to an international audience of policy makers and stakeholders at a UNFCCC-workshop in Bahrain in March 2018.
