Promoting bio-CCS in the Nordic Region
Publication Date: March 2026
This paper summarises key takeaways from a Nordic bio-CCS workshop held in Helsinki on 5 December 2025. Bringing together 40 international experts and Finnish stakeholders, the event explored policy options and funding models, including state support and carbon credits. Presentations covered Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, the voluntary carbon market, the EU context, and Nordic case studies, including the Swedish and Danish support schemes and emerging activities in Finland.
The workshop was organised under a research project on Nordic bio-CCS cooperation funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, led and coordinated by KTH Royal Institute of Technology and supported by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and Perspectives Climate Research. This project examines the conditions for promoting the capture and durable storage of biogenic carbon dioxide in the Nordic region through carbon market cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
