Main project features:
The main objective of the project was to pioneer a robust, data-driven approach to generating high-quality CO2 certificates. The approach was specifically designed and tested in Uganda in cooperation with a local electric vehicles producer, to test implementation of remote MRV based on smart-batteries to facilitate access to carbon market. The project also aimed at providing guidance to project developers on the carbon project cycle and associated costs and risk, and the number of e-motorbikes that would be needed to cover the carbon project cycle costs (from concept design to carbon credit issuance) and how additional revenues could impact the business model of the project developer.
Project Overview
Perspectives carried out the following tasks: – Assessment of the carbon market potential – identification of applicable methodologies, description of the process to register a project and generate carbon credits in the VCM, including time and costs. – Coordination of the data collection (with a company based in Uganda disseminating electric motorbikes) from the vehicles’ batteries and processing of the actual data obtained – Development of an excel-based tool for the estimation of the mitigation potential that could be achieved by the e-motorbikes and how these potential revenues may affect the business model. – Final project report (preparation of a monitoring report and the results, description of challenges and how to address them).
