Nordic Community of Practice for Carbon Credit Markets
The Nordic Community of Practice for Carbon Credit Markets focuses on implementing high-integrity carbon credit cooperation in practice. It offers analysis and events that help Nordic stakeholders work out how high integrity can be ensured in the Paris Agreement, voluntary and European contexts, and it provides a platform for a standing Nordic community of practice on high-integrity carbon credit cooperation.
It builds on two concluded projects run by the same team: the Nordic Dialogue on Voluntary Compensation, which produced the Nordic Code of Best Practice for the voluntary use of carbon credits, and a series of Nordic events on building capacity for best practices for the voluntary carbon market. The Community of Practice was created on the requests and recommendations Nordic stakeholders made under both.
It caters for a diverse range of stakeholders, from governments and municipalities to business, research and civil society. It is tailored for Nordic audiences, and key insights are shared with the international community as well.

Building on the Nordic Dialogue
The work began as the Nordic Dialogue on Voluntary Compensation, which started in June 2021 and concluded at the end of 2022, and which delivered the Nordic Code of Best Practice for the Voluntary Use of Carbon Credits. A series of Nordic events on building capacity for best practices for the voluntary carbon market followed in 2023 and 2024. Both are finished. The Nordic Community of Practice for Carbon Credit Markets carries that work forward: it was created on the requests and recommendations of Nordic stakeholders from those two projects, and it is run by the same team, led by Perspectives Climate Research with IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Carbon Limits and Tyrsky Consulting. The Community of Practice is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Nordic Climate and Air Programme. The Nordic Dialogue and the capacity-building event series were funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Working Groups for Climate and Air and Environment and Economy.
