Pathways for Strengthening Validation and Verification Body (VVB) Capacity in Africa
Publication Date: February 2026
This report sets out how a critical infrastructure gap is holding back Africa’s carbon markets potential, and what can be done to address it.
Pathways for Strengthening Validation and Verification Body Capacity in Africa, developed by Perspectives Climate Group, and commissioned by the Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative and GIZ, shows how building robust, Africa-based validation and verification body (VVB) capacity is essential to enhance carbon markets integrity and ensure greater retention of the economic value of carbon markets within African economies.
The report provides a set of clear, actionable steps to scale Africa’s VVB capacity, including:
- Providing clear policy signals on the role of carbon markets in Nationally Determined Contribution implementation
- Scaling national and regional accreditation and ISO-aligned training pathways
- Deploying targeted financial de-risking instruments
- Integrating digital MRV tools
We welcome this practical and system-focused approach and look forward to seeing these recommendations translated into coordinated action.
