The objective of this project was to provide flexible support to the UAE’s delegation for COP27 in Egypt, SB58 and outlook on COP28, with the goal of helping the UAE become a thought leader and bridge-builder in UNFCCC negotiations. The support ranged from high-level strategic guidance to in-depth analysis of technical and implementation aspects, covering areas such as adaptation, mitigation, GST, climate finance, carbon markets, and transparency.
The following tasks were conducted by the team:• Advising on COP landscape, including the analyis of crunch issues and stocktaking of negotation outcomes of COP27.• Supporting negotations with a focus on COP27, SB58 and outlook on COP28, including ad-hoc advice through daily coordination meetings and observation of informals, consultations, contact groups and plenaries. In addition, drafting of statements and interventions.
