Methodologies for policy crediting under the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism
This study provides timely and critical input for upcoming discussions under the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism, exploring how governments could generate carbon credits under the Paris Agreement by implementing climate policies, such as efficiency standards, carbon taxes, or subsidy reforms. It outlines how integrity criteria like additionality and robust baselines can be applied to policy crediting, including illustrating practical implementation through case studies. The study concludes that although ensuring the integrity of crediting is challenging, when done right, it could be a valuable tool to help accelerate and scale up global mitigation.
