Taking the Natural Approach
Nature-based solutions (NbS) have recently attracted considerable interest in global environmental forums such as the UNFCCC and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). They serve in addressing a considerable number of societal challenges and can also be deployed in adapting to and mitigating climate change. This has sparked a debate on if and how NbS might be integrated into global carbon markets. In this issue, Perspectives experts have contributed to two articles. Our experts analyse ways to transition CDM methodologies to make them fit for Article 6 market-based cooperation as well as looking at approaches for use in operationalising Articles 6.8 and 6.9 of the Paris Agreement.
