Carbon Markets

Overview

Since its inception, Perspectives has been at the forefront of designing, developing, and implementing market-based instruments – both nationally and internationally – to drive greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions and achieve removals. Our team brings deep technical expertise in the robust design of baseline and credit systems, including additionality assessment, mitigation outcome
quantification and monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV). We have extensive experience in designing carbon market activities, with a specialised focus on carbon capture and storage, clean cookstoves, sustainable cooling, energy efficiency, e-mobility, hydrogen, nature-based solutions, waste management, and renewable energy.

Importantly, we remain independent, as we do not engage in the investment or trading of carbon credits – ensuring our advice is objective and free from conflicts of interest. We believe that carbon markets can contribute to global mitigation efforts only if the environmental and social integrity of both the generation and use of carbon credits is ensured.

Background and objective

We provide research-driven expertise in the operationalisation and implementation of market-based instruments and activities. With a deep understanding of carbon crediting programme requirements— including independent programmes (e.g., Gold Standard, Verra) and the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM) —as well as national requirements for Article 6.2 cooperative approaches, we help navigate the complexities of carbon markets. We have in-depth expertise in carbon market trends and stay at the forefront of emerging initiatives and standards regarding carbon credit generation and use including associated claims.
We provide strategic guidance and technical expertise to governments, supporting the successful implementation of carbon market strategies, including institutional frameworks and legal integration. Thereby, our advisory and capacity-building work focuses on tailored advice and strives for strong local ownership through inclusive and participatory methods.

selected services

  • Strategic & Technical Advisory – Supporting the development of the integrated carbon market strategies, including tailored Article 6 policies and implementation frameworks
  • Capacity Building for Article 6 Readiness – Strengthening institutional capabilities of officials to implement Article 6 processes for approval, authorisation, accounting, tracking etc.
  • Expert Assessment of and Advice on:
    • Carbon crediting programmes – Evaluating methodological requirements for additionality, mitigation outcome quantification and baseline setting, and MRV across independent programmes (e.g., Gold Standard, Verra), the PACM, and national Article 6.2 requirements
    • Scoping & Feasibility Studies – Identifying carbon market opportunities and risks across various activity types to support informed decision-making
    • Due Diligence – Conducting rigorous evaluations of carbon market activities to ensure integrity and compliance
    • High-Integrity Carbon Credit Use – Advising on the responsible (compliance/voluntary) use of carbon credits, including credible claims
  • Mitigation Activity Development – Crafting high-integrity Project Idea Notes (PINs), Mitigation Activity Idea Notes (MAINs), Project Design Documents (PDDs), and Mitigation Activity Design Documents (MADDs) to meet specific carbon crediting programme and national requirements. In addition, we support clients with their monitoring reports and the verification.
  • Methodology & Tool Development – Designing robust carbon market methodologies and tools for various activity types, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and emerging best practices
  • (Beyond) Value Chain Mitigation Strategies – Assessing initiatives and standards related to value chain mitigation (incl. insetting) and beyond value chain mitigation (BVCM) incl. the potential role of carbon credits
